Nokia N78 receives Over the Air (OTA) Update!!!

The popular Nokia N78 has received its first firmware update today, and is the second device to have an update available for download directly to the handset over-the-air!!! This firmware version is not available through NSU.

The Nokia N80 was the first device to make use of FOTA, but unfortunately it was only ever used once… Fingers crossed that this time round, all current and future handsets will have regular updates in this way. Even though there will not be as many fixes/improvements, any bugs that are present could be addressed a lot faster and it is also more convenient than connecting to the PC.

Read on for more…

Improvements that have been made in this release are:

  • Improved Bluetooth stability with headsets and car kits
  • Improved stability with the music player (playback over a long time and content refresh)
  • Camera performance has been optimised
  • Adjustments to the sensitivity of the NaviWheel.

To find the update, navigate to: Menu, Tools, Utilities, Device Manager, Options and then Check for Updates.

You can use either Wifi or your GPRS/EDGE/3G… access points to download the update - v11.043. The update itself is free of charge, however, networks may charge for the data you use.

The update itself is only 2MB which is great!!! Although no data should be lost during the update thanks to UDP (User Data Preservation), it is advised that you back up any important data before updating - just in case!!!

I will update our trial N78 soon and also update this post with how it went! In the meantime, if any N78 users have done this already, post your experience in the comments section below and tell us what you think of the improvements!!!

*** Update: The update isn’t currently available for our trial N78-1 with the product code 0556047 and from what I can tell it is definately an unlocked device :S

Hopefully it will be available for this region soon!!!
