Nokia N81 v20.0.056 Firmware Confirmed and Released!!!

News has spread that the Nokia N81 series has received a major firmware update today!!!

If you have a Nokia N81, you will now be able to enjoy Demand Paging, Web Runtime Widgets, Flash Lite 3 support and something you probably weren’t expecting… Menu transitions from S60 Feature Pack 2!!!

As well as these new features, the firmware should improve the devices performance and fix any known bugs!!! No official change log available just yet.

I am really surprised that Nokia has added support for the transitions from Feature Pack 2 onto Feature Pack 1 devices. It would be great to see this implemented on the N82 and N95 series as well. It isn’t a needed ‘improvement’, and some people may prefer not to have a transition, but it is great to see that the option has been made available for the people that do.

Do the transitions work when the screen rotates (for the camera etc.)???

Hopefully now that Demand Paging has been added to the N81, users will be able to benifit from dramatically reduced start-up times and improvements to the battery life of the device as well. Unfortunately, the NaviWheel doesn’t seem as responsive as the N78 and looks like hard work!!! Is this the case? I am surprised this hasn’t been improved with this firmware…

    Sweet! Hope it works with my 8gb version. I’ll definitely be down to Carphone Warehouse sometime in the next couple of weeks to get this. Just the WRT support makes it worth it.

    To update the firmware on your N81’s you must download the Nokia Software Updater:
    http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4777088

    When this has installed, connect your N81 to the computer using the supplied cable and select PC Suite (if it appears on screen).
    Launch the software updater and follow the instructions, you should then (fingers crossed) have the update shown and available to download!

    The update itself may not be available for all country variants/product codes yet. If your phone is network branded it may also take longer for the update to be released.
    If your N81 is network branded, it would be possible to update your device with the updated unbranded firmware by changing your product code.

    Besides all the improvements listed, scrolling through the music list by Navi Wheel is much smoother than previous versions.

    If you really wanted to upgrade your firmware straight away you could do it as mentioned above, or an even easier way is to change your devices product code using NSS (Nokia Service Suite) to a code with the updated firmware available and run the Nokia Software Updater again.

    As I have mentioned, this would be a lot easier and you have got less chance of ‘bricking’ your phone. I would advise you do it this way instead of the method posted by krashna42, but I will take no responsibility if either goes wrong!!! :)

    The update may well be available for your device soon…

    Be aware as well that this will/could VOID your N81s warranty…

    i updated my n81 8gb to v20.0.056 but i have a few issues with it……….maybe u all can help me coz contacting the nokia f…….rs was of no use……….. ok the problems are:

    1: cell restarts often
    2: I have read posts that the ngage is built in with v20.0.056 but mine doesnt have ngage and if i try to install the ngage application from website it gives me update error…….
    3: camera clarity still sucks.
    4: so u see v20.0.056 update has screwed my cellphone……

    maybe hard reset will help. Hold green, 3 and star while switching on. Mine also had bugs, but works fine after reset.

    its nice but I expected some animations on the menu icons but nothing were added. Your mobile might restart the first 3 or 4 month often but u will realise that it wont in the future. The navi weel is cool now that it is also available in contacts and messages
